The City of Bishop, California, (Population 3,700) is at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains on Highway 395. It is almost equal distance between Reno and Los Angeles.

The City’s Police Department traces its roots to 1903, shortly after the city incorporated. The Bishop Police Department employs 14 sworn officers, 5 dispatchers, 5 crossing guards, 5 reserve officers and a support staff of 4.

The City of Bishop (elevation 4,140 ft.) was incorporated in 1903; however, it was settled by cattleman Samuel Bishop in 1861. It is located in the Owens Valley (Inyo County) and has a service population of 20,000. As such, the City of Bishop is the center of commerce on the Eastern slope of the Sierra Mountains. Bishop is home of the popular Mule Days Celebration, the Tri-County Fair, and is an easy commute to Mammoth Ski Resort. During a busy day, the City of Bishop will attract in excess of 30,000 people and an excess of 18,000 vehicles to various events.
