Welcome from the Chief

MY VISION OF THE BISHOP POLICE DEPARTMENT

This is a world-class police organization, comprised of motivated cops with Courage, Competence and Compassion. Bishop’s police officers have strong personal values, a powerful work ethic and a passion for public safety. We work in close alliance with involved, energetic business owners, public employees, and the community at large to halt crime before it takes root. Together, we build better neighborhoods. Front-line officers are led by supervisors who don’t sit in the office, but use both positive leadership and personal involvement to achieve premier public service.

The Bishop Police Department is fully devoted to Community Policing. Everyone who lives, works, or travels in Bishop has the opportunity and the responsibility to share ideas and innovation. By capitalizing upon the full resources of this great city, we will solve today’s crime problems and constantly improve the quality of life for the future. In Bishop, the police and the public are joined in an irrefutable allegiance to each other in a never-ending pursuit of public safety and peace.

As Chief, my goals for the Police Department are simple because simplicity yields focus and direction.

1. To reduce crime and the fear of crime.
2. To improve the quality of life in neighborhoods.
3. To improve the community/police relationship.

Every aspect of Police Department operations, from its organizational structure to personnel selections and disaster preparedness, can be measured against these three fundamental objectives. How we spend money and how we spend time are directly related to supporting the entire City of Bishop. We are committed to build the finest working relationship among the Department, the Mayor, City Council, City Administrator, City Attorney, other government leaders and the community at large.

My field priorities, too, are simple and direct:

1. To fight Crime
2. To fully implement Community Police Problem Solving
3. To ban Illegal Drugs, which destroy lives and breed crime
4. To correct Juvenile Offenders and help At-Risk Youth before they damage themselves, their families and our community
5. To be trained and ready to address Emergencies, whether natural or man-made
6. To eliminate Victim and Witness Intimidation, in all its forms

The Bishop Police Department is deeply ingrained with respect for all human beings. Corruption, bias and harassment have no place here. We share a sense of community for all our police employees and our community alike. In short, the Bishop Police Department is a part of this great community, not “apart” from it!
